Turbulence

I know there is a balance here,

Between the powers of the world.

I walk the line and do my best

To keep my distance from their reach,

Only just beyond their fingertips.

It may be true that I am caged,

But then, my heart is far from me.

She travels freely on the wind.

She tells my soul a beaten path.

It knows that she is as water in a net.

I know that cage is my creation.

As each of us defines our limits

What matters it if we're self confined?

That life rolls on and we do too?

We fly towards tomorrow standing still.

But really it's time that flies by us,

And leaves us far behind tomorrow.

We lie awhile and each lay to rest.

Get laid, get paid, we run the rat race,

And tell ourselves we did what we had to.

There may yet be a future for me,

Some fleeting whisper in eternity's procession.

But that future controls me more than I,

And I control it as a feather does the wind,

These fleeting words, my turbulence.
